METRO AREA The entire city is made up of skyscrapers, busy streets, office buildings, and shady alleys. In the massive heart of the city you’ll find the metropolitan, an area that consists of several industrious urban districts. Some of these districts include the busy market area near Hyde Park, and even the central business district, which is characterized by a concentration of retail and commercial buildings. Various neighborhoods are located within the metropolitan area. They consist primarily of townhomes which become more expensive the further you move into the metropolitan, and cheaper the closer you are to the slums that surround it. While the metropolitan area may appear to be a leisure locale, its alleys are still infested with homeless people, thieves, rats, and feral cats.

HYDE PARK Hyde Park lies somewhere between the central metropolitan area and the outer slums, in the middle of a cozy neighborhood district surrounded by townhomes. Many would imply that the park procures the best of both worlds; the upper-class and lower-classes of the city. It is surely not the safest place after sunset, but the park is often bustling with activity during the day. The park occupies almost 800 acres of the city. A carousel is located mid-park and is open daily between Spring and Autumn. Located at the southeast corner of the park and enclosed by a natural wall of trees and shrubs, the pond provides solace from the city’s turmoil.

BARK PARK Aside from regular walks, it was nearly impossible to find a spaceous area for dogs to be let off leash. The Bark Park was built by the local animal shelter as a place where people could socialize their dogs off leash in the city. The park is surrounded by townhomes on one side, and a small street market on the other. The neighborhood outside of the park is a well kept community, as is the park itself. The park only allows registered dogs who have proof of current vaccinations, but strays have been known to find their way in. A six foot chain link fence surrounds the park. The area is well covered in trees, but not entirely. The park is divided into two areas, one for small dogs and the other for large dogs. There are a couple of picnic tables and benches beneath the shade of the trees, and several cleanup stations are scattered around the park. Both areas have a water fountain with fresh flowing water to drink from. The park's landscape is almost entirely made up of artificial turf. The play area on either side of the fence that separates the small dogs from the large dogs is made up of sand and other loose fines.

BUS TERMINAL The city's bus terminal is rather large and regularly frequented by travelers, as it is the primary means of transportation over trains and subways. The buses take routes through the city to various hotspots and tourist areas, as well as to the airport just over the Naulin River. The busiest subway station in the city is located just outside of the terminal. A parking garage is situated on the outside of the terminal and subway station. Above ground parking is temporary, while below ground parking is for longer periods of time. Due to past crimes, the nightshift security has been increased in the lower levels of the parking garage, but the upper levels are easily accessible at night.

URBAN SLUMS The slums are a large neighborhood on the peripheral of the city, just before you reach the outer city limits. Part of the slums stretches further into the city where old office buildings stand abandoned and decorated with graffiti designs that have been tagged by wandering misfits. The houses in the slums are shoddy and impaired, with creaking doors and overgrown lawns. Most of the chain-link fences that confine the backyards of each of the houses are bent and broken, and some of the unoccupied houses’ windows are shattered. Poverty and gang violence are common characteristics in these slums, as well as various illegal activities, such as money laundering, drug marketing, and dog fighting.

UNDERGROUND SUBWAY The transit system is located beneath the city in a series of underground tunnels. These railway lines are separate from the underground tracks that were once used by freight trains. While the train passages have been vacant for several years, these subway tunnels are in active use. A vast majority of citizens use the subway as a means of daily transportation to and from their work environments. There are various subway platforms stationed throughout the city. Some are used more than others. Any abandoned or unused stations are usually occupied by the homeless, through they more commonly choose the empty train tunnels.

SEWER SYSTEM The sewer is a system of underground pipes and tunnels that transport industrial wastewater from the city to the sewage treatment facility just beyond the main river. Vertical pipes, or otherwise known as manholes, connect the main pipes and tunnels to the surface of the city. The sewers are generally powered by gravity, through there are pumps stationed here and there to help the flow of sewage if necessary. Larger “outfall” pipes allow wastewater to pour into parts of the river where the sewers become flooded by water entering the city’s storm drains. These pipes do not overflow unless there is an excessive downpour of rain, so they are commonly used as a temporary residence for the homeless and even stray animals. The sewer tunnels are home to rats and other rodents.

OLD RAILROAD TUNNELS Vacant railroad tunnels run beneath the periphery of the city and are connected to an abandoned train station just outside of the city. The tunnels branch out into several passages and eventually join together at several smaller, active stations on the opposite side of the city. With exception of mischievous thugs and teenage ruffians, these tunnels have been abandoned for several years. The passages are dark and infested with rats, making this an ideal hunting ground for feral cats. Despite the brimming population of felines, stray mutts are often spotted roaming around here as well.

NAULIN RIVER The Naulin River separates the urban part of the city from its suburban counterpart. A bridge, known as the Weston Bridge, allows safe passage from one side of the river to the other. The river is not safe for swimmers, as the channel is swift and can be rather dangerous if one were to fall in. There have been several reports of lives lost within the river, particularly due to the population of homeless and runaways that seek shelter beneath the bridge and in the tunnels that lead into the river. While the urban slums may be located on the far side of the city, there are still rather poor looking homes across the river. The neighborhood is not very large, and consists mainly of office buildings.

BATALIA HARBOR The Batalia Harbor rests between river and sea, and is a crossroads for ships coming and going. The bay's rugged shoreline consists of a rather large shipyard on one side and a fishing pier on the other. People often walk along the bulwarks but very few parts of the shore actually consist of sand and shells. The current is too dangerous to allow swimmers so close to the Naulin River. Beaches can be found much further across the bay on the outside of the city, but even near the ocean it can be too risky.

UNEKA AIRPORT Uneka Airlines is located a short distance from the Naulin River and is the only major aircraft port serving the city. While the airport terminal itself is inaccessible by stray animals, the areas surrounding it are not. Ten foot galvanized fencing surrounds the perimeter of the airport to prevent wildlife from entering the property, but some strays have dug holes beneath the fencing near a stretch of hangars opposite from the terminal and control tower. Most of the hangars are in use, but a few of the older ones are less frequented and provide a fortress of shelter and protection. Beyond the fence that barricades the outside world from the airport is a stretch of grasslands and woods that go as far as the Naulin River. The trees grow thicker further into the country until there is nothing but forest.

THE SUBURBS The suburbs are located right outside of the city, a short distance from the Naulin River. Row upon row of well maintained lawn stretches as far as the eye can see. Each yard is trimmed and maintained on a regular basis. The people of this neighborhood are not too fond of strays. God forbid a ruffian dog digs up the flowerbed, or leaves an unpleasant gift on the lawn. Regardless of the disapproval of suburban tenants, stray dogs still commonly roam the streets from time to time. Reports of feral animals attract Animal Control vehicles, which occasionally patrol the area in hopes of rescuing and relocating animals on the loose.

THE SCRAPYARD Several miles from the city, across the Naulin River, there is a wasteland of scrap metal; a junkyard of wrecked and repossessed cars and trucks. Various rusted body parts lie stacked and scattered amongst the mountains of crippled vehicles. Weeds and grasses tear through crevices in the lot, and pervade the corroded mechanisms that settle upon the dirt and fractured concrete. The impound lot was once used to temporarily store vehicles when people neglected to pay their fees, but has since become nothing more than a scrapyard full of junk. Hobos and ‘scrapmetalers’ spend countless hours digging through heaps of carburetors, tailpipes, and trash bags full of wastes. The abandoned lot has also attracted the likes of several animals who instinctively seek shelter under whatever hood they can find.

VACANT WAREHOUSE A short distance from the scrapyard there is an old, rusty warehouse. There’s no telling what used to be stored or manufactured here, but it has been vacant for years. Weeds and grasses penetrate the cracks and splits of the concrete floor, and there’s not a window left intact. Shattered glass still remains on the dusty ground, next to rusted nails and splintered boards that once protected the windows. Concrete blocks and slabs of metal make up the walls of the warehouse, now tagged with graffiti and little quotes left behind by some rebellious teenager. Field mice often seek shelter here, making the warehouse a routine hunting ground for feral cats, birds of prey, snakes, and other predators.

THE COUNTRYSIDE Several miles beyond the suburbs lies the city exurbs, an area rural in character but arguably still within the outer limits of the city. These provincial exurbs are particularly inhabited by wealthy families. Newly developed homes are primarily built on rather extensive portions of land, making this an idea housing location for livestock owners and modern agricultural farmers. These exurbs, being a rather large, sparely populated region, are an ideal location for feral animals. The diverse environment provides substantial shelter and a supply of prey is usually abundant all year around.
