[cs=2][classy=title]appearance[/classy] Yana is about the size of a small shepherd only weighing between 55-60lbs, but she's a strong and agile dog. Her body is broad and well-muscled. She gets her thick double coat from the East Siberian Laika in her bloodlines. The fur is somewhat of an agouti, with a unique mixture of brown with black tips, and a tan and white chest. Her tail is straight and bushy like a husky, or some other medium-large spitz breed. Her proportionate ears are wide at the base and pointed at the tips. [classy=title]personality[/classy]Yana is used to being on her own, but has a rather friendly disposition. She is clever and quick-witted. She is very wary of strangers, both human and canine alike. It can take a lot of patience to gain her trust. She is very gaurded and can be quite stubborn. Yana enjoys the outdoors. She is very active and gets bored easily without mental or physical stimulation. She loves to explore and is exceptionally well at tracking and hunting... Although she is generally a docile being, Yana can also be a bit dominating when she senses that another dog is weaker. She is annoyed by arrogance and greed, and prefers to take a diplomatic approach towards other mongrels. Having been born and raised in Russia, Yana thrives in colder regions and hates extreme heat. She is frightened by loud noises and strangers, but can fend for herself when necessary. [classy=title]biography[/classy]Yana was born in the wilds of Russia. Well, actually the den was nearby a railroad just outside of town. Her mother was feral and had lived on the outskirts of the Russian village her entire life. When food was scarce in the wild she would scavenge for food in the alleys. Yana never knew her father, but he had been a lot like her mother – some mongrel of many bloodlines. Yana’s mother was predominantly East Siberian Laika mixed with some sort of shepherd – that was obvious. Of a healthy litter of seven puppies, only three survived their first year. Two died early from malnutrition (it was impossible for any dog to provide for seven pups in their feral conditions), one fell ill later on, and another was killed by a predator. Yana and her two brothers were healthy and thrived off of the land. Their mother taught them techniques that would secure their survival - how to hunt, how to scavenge, and most importantly, how to evade danger and risky situations. When Yana was about two years old, one of her brothers was attacked and killed by another mongrel. Then her mother disappeared -- Yana had not been there to see her being taken away by trappers. Her fate remains unknown... Rurik, Yana's older brother, was her only remaining family. The two stuck together after their mother went missing. Whenever Rurik would go hunting on his own, Yana would linger around the village. That's how she came to bond with a human by the name of Milena. Milena was in her late twenties and traveled often with her lover. The two women enjoyed the outdoors and had come across the feral dog during one of their hikes in the mountains outside of the village. At first, Yana was wary of the strange women and circled around them at a great distance. Milena was not quick to give up, and began to visit Yana in the woods every day. Eventually Yana trusted the woman to touch her, and within a few months Yana was following the woman home. Within the next year Yana became a human's companion. She accompanied the women on their hikes in the mountains, protected them, and helped them navigate the wilderness. She slept under the roof of a human's home while they provided her meals -- a raw diet that she didn't have to hunt for... Rurik was disgusted by Yana's choice to live among the humans. He had established a pack among other feral dogs. She did not see much of him after that. In a year's time, Yana was fully domesticated and had acquired a knowledge of proper behavior towards humans. In 2011. Milena and her lover planned to move to America to live in the United States. They had journeyed to nearly every destination in Russia that they were interested in seeing -- now it was time to venture away from home. They wanted to bring Yana as well. Unaware of what was to come, Yana's humans hid a sedative in her food in order to load her into a crate and onto the small airplane that would take them to a larger port. Yana woke up to a loud, frightening bustle of activity. Suddenly realizing that she was trapped, the dog panicked. She started howling and thrashing around in the crate. The standard plastic travel crate was no match for the dog's strength and body weight. Her wild banging eventually bent part of the plastic, allowing the wire mesh door to be thrust open. Yana managed to break free of her crate, but was lost -- her surroundings were like nothing she had ever seen. There were no familiar sights or smells. Strangers were everywhere she looked. There was no escape! Pushing through the crowds, she finally saw an opening and ran for it... Suddenly there was a burst of light and glass shattered around her. Daze and confused, the dog bolted and kept running... Completely unaware of the vast city ahead. |
