[cs=2][classy=title]appearance[/classy] Kory is a poodle who stands at about seventeen inches at her wither. She has a small, lithe frame, but put your hands on her and you'll find she's all muscle, toned and ready. She has been in the conformation ring a few times and enjoyed herself well enough. Her eyes flashed a gaze that was both the acknowledgment that she knew her own beauty and of something demure and honest, sweet and soft. Her tail was kept long and remains a happy wag almost constantly. She has clean teeth and a bright smile that displays how healthy she is. Her expression does win over many, but everyone sees her well-kept coat first. [classy=title]personality[/classy]Fiery colored, rich and deep, her coat is a color that turns heads, especially on a poodle. She looks marvelous when freshly groomed. Gregory keeps her in a no-frills style that suits her. She has her face and neck shaved short, with the hair left longer on her head and body. Her legs are clipped a touch shorter, with shaved feet. And, every day, Gregory brushes her ears so that they are long, spaniel-like, soft, and sometimes even topped with pink bows where they meet her head—when she lets them alone. And then, right before she's groomed again, there is a clownish, moppish quality about her that suits her just as well as the freshly clipped version of her. Her face is a touch woolier, her tail a thick brush of crimped-looking hair. The curls are more obvious than when she's just been clipped. The longer hair makes the ringlets form easily, though a brush through usually makes her hair stand straight out, like the puffballs seen running around the show ring. Overall, she's a dog of clean lines. Her legs are long and she moves jauntily. She has enough substance to her to make her seem like more than a wisp, but only just barely. Her deep brown eyes hold the wisdom of good humor and in the moments where she holds still—she seems statuesque, a bitch that shows all that she's made of on her very surface—she's an easy dog to read. Kory is bright, energetic, playful, and plays her eccentricities with the charm of endearment. She's bubbly, talkative, and intelligent, though humble about it. It's something that she never lists as a strength. She's got the wide-eyed ideals of a puppy that has just discovered the rest of the world and the right touch of crazy to realize them. She has simple pleasures and observes a life that indulges in the wonder of nature and the civilization that men have built. [classy=title]biography[/classy]However, her human doesn't see himself as master, but as a partner to her. They do many things together. His viewpoint allowed her to fully be herself. There were so many moments when she had her Gregory holding his breath as she let herself become breathtaking, showing him that, yes, she understood, only to have the next second with her rolling in the mud and grinning. Life is carefree, or at least it was. She has a humor that laughs at life, the way it's lived, and enjoys it. Kory is well-socialized, but this culminates into a mad-dash to know who a dog is. She has some politeness, but her candor may grate on more aloof dogs. Kory has an artist's soul. She enjoys the words of poetry, the quiet of nature. Her naivety is due to her upbringing as a sport dog, which means that she knows a lot about what most other dogs just don't care about, and the fact that she's always got her eyes skywards—in the clouds, a dreamer. The red poodle has a happy, optimistic expression on her face. It's rare to see her mad. Instead, she grows neurotic and agitated in stress. She tends to speak quickly, as if to catch her flying thoughts, and it comes out as a jumble, though she finds a way to mince her words enough, to gather what she had said into a nice pile when she's done with her trademark, "or, in other words..." She has a sharp clarity about her when discussing deeper things. She learns fast, so fast. She learns bad habits along with the good. She learns things she doesn't want to know or things that ruin her life. She has learned, since she was a puppy, that toys are fun. Gregory used the toys to channel intensity in the different venues in which she competes, but instead, it has become obsession. A ball will put her into such a sharp focus that she tunes all else out. The promise of a game of tug will frenzy her mind, stir her up until she has to force herself to find a thread of sanity to cling to just so that she could think straight enough to find a way to feed her compulsion to play. She enjoys games with dogs. Chase and bitey-face are played with normal casualness. But the toys themselves turn her into something else—the epitome of both ecstasy and obsession. Underneath her joy, her intensity, and her passionate existence, is the kernel of sadness when she watches her Gregory falter in his weakened state. Sunsea was her breeder's name. It is the name that sits in the pedigree of all the dogs bred from this small kennel. Her parents were carefully matched. So, CH Clarial's Risky Venture AXJ JK RE CGC "Julian" was paired with TDCH Sunsea's Wonderful Little Gem OA CDX W-FDMF "Ruby" for Sunsea's D litter. Then, Mr. Gregory Snyder brought her home at nine weeks of age. She was registered as Sunsea's Dash of Spice. She was a spitfire back then, but that was how Greg liked it. And when she got home, she fell in love with him, hard. She wasn't his first dog and was raised without a hitch. The only thing that snagged them up was her insistence that life have a touch of humor in every aspect of it. Basically, Gregory Snyder did everything right when it came to dog ownership. Kory was bred to have drive, energy, pizazz, and she had more than her share of it. Life was fun. She was taught foundation exercises that readied her for the life that her person had planned for her. Training was a win-win situation that they shared. She would do something, he'd offer her a reward. He taught her to love toys. To this day, Kory can't decide whether she loves that he gave her such a primal, intense desire or dislikes the fact that she is trapped into a mental tunnel vision where the razor focus contains the toy, herself, and the means to get at it. When she's in the ring, she loves it. Gregory readied her for the busy trial atmosphere full of the incessant barks of more nervy dogs, the cool stare of the handlers who know that their dogs will do right by them, the nervousness of the novices—both human and canine. What he didn't ready her for was what happened when she was a little more than three and a half. Gregory was an older gentleman, which surprised the younger crowd, who thought that progressive training was a front that they alone had to hold for the most part. And he was very good at what he did. He kept to himself, opposite the social inclinations of his own dog Kory, but she kept him from becoming a hermit, which was why he chose the standard poodle and Sunsea's dogs in particular. Mr. Snyder suffered a stroke in Kory's fourth year in life. She had to go back to the breeder's for a while, where she got to know her mother, who was a sweet dog and her breeder, who had the poodle breed nestled deep in her heart. Snyder worked through his physical therapy quickly, wanting to get back to his girl—Kory was the only creature who got to understand how soft-hearted Gregory's love could be. When he had had enough rehabilitation, he returned home, a touch slower, a bit more mumbly, but himself and Kory was happy again. Some days, he's up to it. Other days, things happen and Kory finds herself free on the streets while her person is dazed inside the house, some time lost, but enough for her to spend her energy. When the day's over, she is sure to return home before he misses her. However, both of them know that the good life is over and all that's left is the hard stuff that nobody wants to admit: Gregory is no longer capable of keeping up with Kory. |
